Basically, 222 Hyde blew up in sweat! What a way to start 2008!!! I've been disappointed by the few DJ's I have seen live this year, but Blaqstarr, DJ Fame, and Dave Nada brought it back. Scene-sters sit the fuck down, ghetto club kids stand up!

This was the SWITCH I've been waiting to see since I first heard his live mix from Budapest. You know the one... dropped way back in late 06 early 07. Ask Mawkus about it, he's the one who leaked it to me. Anyway, his set that night was great! Played the heavier shit that the true heads recognize and go crazy for. The system @ Slide (directly next door to Ruby Sky) was par none and probably the best system I've heard in the city next to Mighty (MSTRKRFT THIS SATURDAY SHOWCASING THEIR NEW SOUND SYSTEM).
Yes, the DJ setup was on top of an ivory piano. Yes, SWITCH downed half his drink in one gulp (see picture above). Yes, the nose blowers were dancing on the couches. Yes, I walked through a sea of kids outside who were bad mouthing the doorman only to proudly say, in front of all o' them, "I'm on the guest-list." Next time hipsters, next time.

International Players' Atmospheric Strut

Been sleepin' on this one. A blend I did of the UGK and Outkast collabo "International Player's Anthem" on some Cloud One that's on some sippin'-Disaronno-with-your-girl-wearing-velvet type steez. This girl I met at the Frequencies of Love art show I spun at last Friday told me I smelled like one of her dreams. I dedicate this blend to her.

The weather is starting to warm up just a little and the days will start getting longer, so I made a two part mix for the start and end of the day. It's on the mellow tip with some records I haven't given shine in awhile. With limited edition, handmade, cardboard packaging sporting fluorescent red orange stenciling, I broke out the DIY steez for this one. For all the downloaders, you can print out the pic I included to put in your jewel case when you burn this. Each part of this mix is highly recommended for maxing out as the days start to get longer and the nights warmer. This is some down home, kick it on the porch, vibin' music. Do it like Mawkus and keep it green. Califas weather in effect...

French Tecktonik Taste!

I know I should be writing one of the three papers I got going on but I just needed to post this epic video. The song, the girls, the dancing, it's infectious and so amazingly original! If you haven't been up on it, kids in Paris have started this dance craze called "tecktonik" which combines hip-hop and techno dancing styles. You can totally see the pop-lock infused vogue-wacking going on. So deeeeep. This video totally reminds me of the last time I was in Japan, wandering past a 7-11 at 4am, drunk and lost, seeing Japanese kids in front practicing their moves to Wild Child breaks blasting out of their next level Sony-NEC-Fujitsu boomboxes from '93. Oh yeah, and this song is a necessity. Swedish House Mafia in effect! Axwell killin' it as always!

In continuing with the theme of things, I felt like I had to put on blast my love for Minnie Riperton. If you haven't noticed, I have a thing for black female vocalists. Listening to Minnie Riperton is so necessary when understanding the definition of soul. Any mixtape out there that calls itself "baby making music" (I see you Dirty Harry and ?uestlove) and doesn't have some Minnie on it is committing musical sin. Her vocal ability was amazing and clearly noted in several songs, with her lyrics literally oozing that sexual prowess. Seriously, when anyone brings up sex music in conversation, there's always the definitive answers like Barry White, Marvin Gaye, Al Green, etc, with Minnie Riperton being one of them. For those of you with significant others in your lives, this is required.

I know it's been a minute, but I've been super busy with this-and-that. Still behind on some things, but I'm working on catching up.

One of the things that I've been behind in that I wanted to do for ages was to make the Club 91 show a bonafide podcast. I'm pleased to let you know that that the time has now come.

Since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, I couldn't decide to post any other realer music than Sade. I remember back when I was younger and my sister would blast her albums or when in the car, she'd threaten me with my life if Sade was playing on the radio and I wanted to change the station. I was never into Sade up until much later in my life when I matured and had some magical glacial epiphany the first time I really listened to "Is It A Crime". The song totally blew my mind.
